Schools can save Billions with Open source

If schools switched all of their software requirements over to an open source software providers such as Open Office it could save the taxpayer billions of pounds.

In a report that was made by Becta the government body for education a couple of years ago also stated that if schools made the switch they would benefit from not having to commit to the licence agreements that need to be signed up to with software companies such as Microsoft.

This idea is gaining momentum all of the time especially as this week the computer company Elonex have introduced their latest Linux Based laptop the One at the Education Show in Birmingham, this machine has a price tag of just £100 and would be ideal for the use in schools.

These latest computer maybe offering just the basics, but for an education machine they are ideal, especially when they are running open source software too.
