Parents hit by school run charge

A pilot scheme in Richmond, London which will see parents being charged if they want to drive their children to school, could be rolled out across the capital if deemed to be a success.

The plan is by the local council to charge parents around £75 per year for the privilege of taking their own kids to school. Naturally this has been condemned by both motoring organisations and parents too.

In the past parents were able to get a licence from the council for free, this allowed them to stop at the school, even on double yellow lines for ten minutes, just enough time to get the kids and go. But it seems that there is money to be made here.

After all for people who can spend 70,000 on the latest Range Rover, £75 per year is a mere drop in the ocean and a nice little money spinner for the council.
