University spends cash on bosses

It is often heard that schools and colleges are struggling to make ends meet. It is a sign of times and they have to make do as with any other institution. Yet one such place the Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) has kicked up a storm over the way that they are handling their finances.

In fact they have already begun a programme of cut backs which have included around a 170 job cuts, this would seem to be a case of restructuring and so why the fuss? The problem for the GCU is that they have just spent more than £200,000 on their boardroom.

The money has been lavished on chairs that cost around £1,000 each and hi tech equipment such as audio and visual systems.

The GCU say that the room has not been refitted since 1995 and is part of their future plans as the room can be used for other things.
