Teachers get compensation

Teachers in Scotland were paid out £180,000 in compensation claims during 2008 according to the Scottish teachers union, the EIS. The largest payout was to a teacher who fell off of a step ladder, he received £35,000.

However, there were also payments of up to £15,000 for teachers who got involved in breaking up fights between pupils or who had been assaulted by a pupil.

This problem highlights the seriousness of health and safety at work; if this were taken seriously by employers then maybe the cost of compensation would not be so high.

However, these claims are also bolstered up by those claims where teachers have slipped in the car park, injured by falling items and slipping on food.
