Parents given homework

Naturally this has to be America! A teacher at Montclair High School in New Jersey has been issuing parents of his ninth grade English class, homework, which is to studying and comment on certain pieces of literature. Failure to do so may result in their child getting a lower grade!

The teachers point is to get the parents involved with their child’s progress and there is research that claims parental involvement in the child’s work goes a long way. This has been a success story at this particular school, but would this go down in an inner city school here in the UK? I don’t think so.
