Social Networking or Social Position?

Despite what people are saying, it would appear that certain social networking sites have a certain following from different groups; this can be made up by education, religion and race. So when we are told that the student’s first choice for a social networking site is Facebook this may not be entirely right, because according to research coming out of Northwestern University the findings are a lot different.

The study found that Facebook is popular with white students, Hispanic students prefer MySpace, Asian and Asian American students go for Xanga or Friendster, however it would seem that black students have no favourite yet!

So it would seem that there are barriers being built up even on so called social networking sites, which is a bit worrying, because if this trend continues these site will not be open to everyone and therefore the social networking is sort of dead, which is shame.
