The difference between fact and fiction

Just what do people learn at school these days? Well it would seem that when it comes to historical facts and fiction that is found in film and books sort of blend into one historical mass where the truth is often blurred with that of fiction.

Some examples of this blurring are:

25% thought Winston Churchill is a myth
The majority thought Sherlock Holmes is real
Half believed that King Richard the Lionheart is a myth
23% thought that Florence Nightingale was a myth
33% believed that Biggles was real

Its funny how the more flamboyant fictional characters are believed to be real, but the real life counterparts are the opposite! Extra history homework needed, could do better.
